NEW DELHI
The
capital of India, Delhi, has a history that spans over several
millennia situated at the nerve center of the ancient Asian
trade route, Delhi has accumulated extraordinary wealth, but
repeatedly lost it to successive foreign invaders who have
come knocking at the door.
It is said that there is a mountain anywhere within a stone's
throw of Delhi. And this would not be false claim considering
the number of rulers and dynasties who have established their
capitals here.
The walled city of Old Delhi was at one time Shahjahanabad
the capital of the Mughals, while the heritage sites dotting
South Delhi from Siri Fort, to Hauz Khas, Mehrauli, and Tughlakabad
are muter witness to the various smaller Muslim rulers who
preceded the Mughal.
New Delhi with Lutyen's architecture, on the other hand, is
stamped by the mark of British rule, while the concrete suburbs
rapidly progressing in all directions are the ultimate submission
to modern India's tryst with its global destiny
QUTUB
MINAR
Qutubuddin Aibak, a salve of the Muslim raider Mohammad
Ghauri, to mark the first Muslim dynasty in India, built
this imposing five-story tower in 1193 AD. Qutub Minar is
a world Heritage Monument.
RED
FORT
The Mughal citadel of power carved in red sandstone dominates
the cityscape on the way to Old Delhi. It houses the Diwan-e-Aam
or public audience hall of the emperor, the Diwan-e-Khas
or private hall, the Rang Mahal (queens' palace) with the
royal baths (Hamams) and the exquisite Moti Masjid or pearl
Mosque
AGRA-
THE HOME OF TAJ MAHAL
No tour in India can be complete without paying visit to
Agra and jaipur where the paying a visit to Agra and jaipur
where the palaces and forts of yesteryears witnessed royal
processions and splendor and are now living monuments. Agra,
an ancient city gained world fame during the mughal era,
specifically in the reign of shah Jahan when he built Taj
Mahal in memory of his wife, creating a monument of such
incredible elegance that the Taj is considered synonymous
with beauty itself.
TAJ
MAHAL
Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and fatehpur-Sikri. The visit to India's
most famous World Heritage site can be done in a single
day or as an overnight trip. The exquisite white marble
mausoleum built by Emperor Shah Jahan for his wife Mumtaz
is an icon of India heritage. A couple of kilometers away
is the enormous Agra fort built by Akbar, Shah Jahan's father,
while about 35km away is the red sandstone city of Fatepur-Sikri,
meant to the best of Akbar's enlightened rule
JAIPUR
Jaipur was founded in 1727 AD by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh
and designed by the architect Vidyadhar Bhattacharya. Jaipur
is popularly known as the pink city because of the pink
colour used at the time of making, to create an impression
of red sandstone buildings of Mughal cities. Also, the city
was repainted pink in 1976 during the visit of Prince of
Wales.
HAWA
MAHAL
Hawa Mahal literally the palace of winds was built in 1799
by Maharaja Sawai pratap Singh. Dedicated to lord Krishna,
it is shaped like a mukut, or crown, which adorns the lord's
head. It has over 900 niches. In the not-too -distant past,
ladies of the court found it convenient to watch the activities
on the street below without being observed themselves.
FATEPUR
SIKRI
Like the cactus flower that for a moment adorns the desert,
so was the town of Fatehpur Sikri, having a brief span of
glory. It was abandoned, only after d15 years of its construction,
due to scarcity of water in the town. This magnificent town
was once the capital of Mughal Empire. Here, the beautiful
marble tomb of Sheikh Salim Chisti attracts thousand of
people who seek blessing of the reverend saint.
CITY
PALACE
This former royal residence is an imposing blend of traditional
Rajasthani and mughal architecture and the craftsmanship
it is most important landmark of jaipur with it's numerous
outbuilding, courtyards, impressive gateways and temples.
Occupying one seventh of the walled city area, the palace
houses the seven-storeyed Chandra Mahal. Mubarak Mahal,
the Diwan-i-am and Diwan-i-khas.
